There is a range of eating disorders, which have psychological and physical symptoms. Not everyone fits into a diagnosis, but still have very disordered eating that causes major anxiety.
Eating disorder sit on a continuum of a range of symptoms and behaviours, some of which are:
Pre-occupation with food, body shape and weight.
Distorted body image and extreme body dissatisfaction.
Hypersensitive to comments relating to food, body shape, weight or exercise.
Extreme anxiety around meal times and eating out.
Low self-esteem, self-loathing, shame and guilt.
Rigid thought around food – good vs bad.
Weight loss and weight gain.
Loss of or disturbed menstrual periods.
